It was on a Thursday afternoon after the cleanup...i was
doing the normal cleaning and getting ready to go for shopping as Chef Blades
works as if he was running after something
important not knowing that hunger
was responsible for his unexpected visit knowing that he must find something
good to eat in the kitchen.
Chef Blade is a wonderful chef who believes so much in
culinary ethics that he never stops using those kitchen terms, he started by
asking me after my sous chef of which I do not even have one, so I pretended
not to understand the word sous until he made it clear by saying my assistant
chef…and I was like; ok, he is not around.
As an experienced chef that have handled different kinds of hunger
I was able to understand Chef Blades’ moves in the kitchen but I allowed him to
suit himself first.
Looking into his eyes he was seriously and physically hungry
so it touched my heart to heal him from his hunger but he was still busy laying
complain of how my cutleries were not properly placed in the kitchen, how hot
it is in the kitchen and threatened to use his handkerchief as It is against
the culinary ethics, but for me I am in the kitchen and I relate
well with all my utensils, they know me as I know them, they feel me as I feel
them.
Though I have a special feeling for my chopping board
because that’s where all the vegetables in the kitchen get to meet before
landing into the wok.
I was shocked to hear chef blade ask me where I got trained …seeing
the anger from hunger in his eyes as he went on top of his voice and pronounced
that he is very hungry, that he actually was coming from a long journey with a
friend who dropped him off to go and get some money from the ATM machine
nearby. The truth of the matter finally came out , all the forming as per culinary
ethics and heat in the kitchen went down with the truth.
He sat down quietly
as I began to call on my utensils and few of the ingredients I have in the
kitchen to bear with chef blade and consider his level and kind of hunger and
they understood him clearly but for carrot that took time to accept the
pleadings.
Then the cooking starts.
All I had in the kitchen that day was about 2 cucumber, 2
carrots, 3 spring onions, one whole apple, garlic and ginger, 1 egg, coriander,
as I reached for my wok Chef Blade’s friend came into the kitchen complaining
to Chef Blade quietly as he failed to pull money from the ATM machine.. *double
wahala for dead body*
His friend is an engineer, a slim dark skinned guy …according
to him ..He likes Kitchen activities but he feels lazy to eat. We share views
on eating habits and the impact of healthy and unhealthy eating habits in our
society as the cooking went on.
Chef Blade got up to question what I was cooking with the little
but no ingredient he saw… but the truth
was that I was after getting him back to normal with the right nutrient as it is the essence of eating.
In the next 15minutes the food was almost ready ,chef blade
was amazed with the end product as he began to think of what to name the food …I
was equally glad that finally I made something that was appreciated after all
the talks in the kitchen.
